About Greek
With more than 4,000 years of development and history, Greek is one of the oldest Indo-European languages, rooted in a deep and rich cultural heritage. Today, the Greek language is spoken by more than 10 million people in Greece alone, and around 4 million people elsewhere. Australia, Canada, the USA, and South Africa still have the largest Greek-speaking populations outside Greece. There are a large number of English loanwords in Greek such as complex, stress and telephone (tele meaning ‘far’ and phone meaning sound/voice in Greek). Many sports are also identical in both languages, for instance tennis and volleyball. Not only that, but due to their proximity and longstanding links there are also a great many Italian loanwords in Modern Greek including valíia (Greek) – valigia (Italian), meaning ‘suitcase’, and bigiétos (Greek) – biglietto (Italian) meaning ‘ticket’. This 1-hour digital Greek taster course is for beginners who are new to the Michel Thomas Method. Learn how to speak beginner level Greek by learning the 50 most common Greek words and how to put them together to make yourself understood. From the very beginning you will be able to construct simple phrases by listening and thinking out answers for yourself. During the course, you will join Michel Thomas Method teacher and native speaker Hara Garoufalia-Middle and 2 students in a live Greek class. You will learn at your own pace, pausing and repeating where necessary, and complete the course in about 3-4 hours. This digital course is available to stream or download via the Michel Thomas Method Library app. It is the first hour of the Foundation Greek course.

Foundation Greek
LISTEN, ABSORB AND SPEAK GREEK NATURALLY
Learn Greek from beginner level with our Foundation course which breaks the language down into building blocks in such a way that you listen, speak, respond and move on to ever-more-complex sentences in Greek. During this 8-hour digital course you will join 2 students in a live lesson, participating actively in the class, learning from both their successes and their mistakes. Within the first hour you will be able to construct simple sentences. By the end of the course, you will have the confidence to understand and speak basic Greek; you will be familiar with Greek grammar basics, expressions and vocabulary. You can practice at your own pace, pausing and repeating where necessary, and complete the course in about 20-30 hours. This course is available to stream or download via the Michel Thomas Method Library app. This course incorporates the Start Greek course.

Intermediate Greek

Intermediate Greek is the next step in your language journey and follows on from the Michel Thomas Method Foundation Greek Course. You will join Michel Thomas Method teacher and native speaker Hara Garoufalia-Middle and 2 students in a live Greek class. Your understanding of the language will deepen as you grow to understand some of the patterns in the language and as your knowledge expands to some basic Greek grammar rules, all introduced in simple building blocks with the same no-pens, no-memorizing method. You will learn at your own pace, pausing and repeating where necessary; it will take around 15-20 hours to complete this digital course which is available to stream or download via the Michel Thomas Method Library app.
